The Amended Law

A king decreed a new law.

His minister warned: "This contradicts the old law. Disputes already in progress will be thrown into confusion."

The king amended the decree: "For disputes begun under the old law, the old law applies. For new disputes, the new law applies."

The transition was gradual. Justice continued.
