The Army's Supply Line

A general planned his supply line for an army of ten thousand.

Victory brought captured soldiers who surrendered and needed feeding. The army grew to twelve thousand.

The supply line broke. The army starved in the midst of victory.

The next general planned supplies for twenty percent more than his force.

"You're feeding ghosts," his officers said.

"I'm feeding the unexpected."
