An army was divided for a pincer movement. They were to reunite at a specific location.

Communication runners were captured. Neither flank knew the other's position.

Each flank commander, thinking the other delayed, advanced independently. They arrived at different times. The enemy defeated them separately.

Coordination required communication. Without it, division became defeat.
