The Bridge Town

A town prospered because it sat at the only bridge for a hundred miles.

All trade crossed through. The town grew rich.

Then a second bridge was built, fifty miles north. Travelers took the shorter route.

Within a generation, the bridge town was a village again. Its prosperity had never been its own.
