An attacking army surrounded a castle. They could all attack one wall at once — overwhelming force.

But if they all struck the same point, they'd trample each other. Their own numbers became their weakness.

A wise general attacked in waves, each wave retreating as the next advanced.

The wall fell. The army didn't defeat itself.
