The Chroniclers' Cross-References

Three monasteries kept chronicles of events. Monks occasionally visited and compared notes.

Each chronicle noted not just events, but what the chronicler knew of the others' records when writing. After any visit, entries were cross-referenced.

Years later, historians could determine which events influenced which. Two entries written without knowledge of each other were concurrent. An entry made after learning of another was subsequent.
