The Clean Copy

A manuscript had accumulated errors over generations of copying. Scribes had tried to correct them, but corrections introduced new errors.

A scholar didn't try to fix the corrupted manuscript. He obtained the original and made a fresh copy.

The new copy was clean. The corrected copy was a palimpsest of errors.
