The Lamplighter's Test

A lamplighter lit the street lamps each evening. But before lighting, he checked each one — oil level, wick condition, glass clarity.

Most lamps were fine. But each week, one or two needed attention.

He fixed them before they failed. The street stayed lit.

Another lamplighter just lit whatever would light. His street had dark patches where lamps had failed without warning.
