The Library Book

A scholar borrowed a book from the library. She didn't lock it in her room — others could read it too.

When she returned to add her marginalia, she first checked: had anyone else written in it?

If the margins were unchanged, she wrote her notes. If someone else had written, she had to reconcile the changes.

The book stayed available. Conflicts were handled when they arose.
