The Locked Door

A servant was sent to deliver a message to his master's ally. The gate was locked.

He knocked. No answer. He knocked again immediately. Still nothing.

He pounded on the gate continuously. The household, annoyed by the noise, refused to open even when they returned.

A wiser servant would have knocked, waited, knocked again, waited longer. His patience would have been recognized as respect. His persistence would have been welcome.
