The Merchant's Ledger

A merchant had two ledgers — one at his shop, one at his home.

Each day, he recorded transactions in whichever ledger was at hand.

The ledgers often disagreed. But each evening, he reconciled them.

By morning, both ledgers showed the same totals.

"Why keep two?"

"Because I work in two places. The agreement can wait until evening."
