The Monk's Garden
A monk tended a garden. Each day he walked every row, noting which plants thrived, which struggled, which showed signs of pests.
His fellow monks thought this excessive. "The garden produces. What more is needed?"
One spring, a blight appeared. The monk had seen its early signs a week before. He'd already removed the affected plants.
The monastery next door lost its entire crop. Their gardener had only checked when the harvest failed.
