The Ship's Log
Two captains sailed similar ships on similar routes.
The first captain kept a detailed log: wind speed, current direction, crew health, cargo condition, every creak and groan of the hull.
The second captain kept only the destination and arrival time.
Both ships sailed successfully for years.
When the first captain's ship began taking on water, he checked his log, found when the hull sounds had changed, and located the weakness.
When the second captain's ship sank, no one knew why. Neither did he.
