The Summarizing Accountant

An accountant summarized ledger pages into chapter totals, chapters into book totals, and books into a single grand total.

To verify a single entry, one needed only to check that the page total matched, then the chapter total, then the grand total. A wrong entry would show up as a mismatched total somewhere.
