The Three Craftsmen

A customer ordered a custom carriage. The wheelwright, the carpenter, and the upholsterer each had to complete their part.

The wheelwright finished. The carpenter finished. The upholsterer fell ill.

The customer could take the unfinished carriage, or wait indefinitely, or cancel the entire order.

A contract had been written: if any craftsman cannot complete his work, the others will disassemble what they've built and return the materials. A partial carriage helps no one.

The customer received his money back. He ordered again when all three were ready.
