The Burning Building

A fire brigade arrived at a burning building. Three floors were ablaze.

They had water enough to save one floor thoroughly or spray all three lightly.

The captain chose one floor — the one with trapped occupants.

The other floors burned. But everyone on the saved floor lived.

A neighboring captain, facing the same choice, tried to fight all three. The water spread too thin. The whole building fell.
