The Marriage Broker

A marriage broker arranged matches between families who didn't trust each other.

She visited each family separately: "If the other family agrees, will you proceed?"

Only when both said yes did she announce the betrothal.

If either family hesitated, she told neither they had been rejected. She simply reported: "The match cannot proceed."
