The New Language

A scholar proposed reforming the kingdom's writing system — simpler, more logical.

"Everyone must relearn to read," a councilor objected.

The scholar suggested a transition: new documents would be written in both systems. Students would learn the new system. Within a generation, the old would fade.

It took fifty years. But no one was ever unable to read during the transition.
