The Pruned Tree

A gardener cut away a third of an old tree — diseased branches, overgrowth.

Visitors thought he'd killed it.

The next spring, the tree bloomed more fully than it had in years. The remaining branches, no longer competing with dead wood, flourished.

The tree had been waiting to heal. The gardener had only removed what was preventing it.
