The Second Language

A kingdom spoke an old language, but needed to conduct trade in a new one.

The king didn't ban the old language. He simply began conducting official business in the new language.

Gradually, citizens learned the new language for practical reasons. Within a generation, it dominated. The old language wasn't forbidden — it was simply superseded.
