The Signal Towers

A kingdom's signal towers passed messages in sequence — each tower watched only the one before it.

A message crossed the kingdom in an hour. But if one tower missed the signal, every tower beyond it stayed dark.

A neighboring kingdom's towers each watched three others. Redundant, slower, but a single dark tower only slowed the message. It didn't stop it.
