The Technical Interpreter

A merchant needed to communicate with a guild of craftsmen who used technical terms he didn't understand.

He hired someone who knew both commerce and craft — who could translate the merchant's needs into technical specifications and translate the craftsmen's questions into business terms.

Neither the merchant nor the craftsmen needed to learn the other's language. The interpreter bridged them.
