The Time of Day

Two villages had clocks, but no way to synchronize them.

Each village's clock drifted. When travelers went between villages, they found the time disagreed.

Eventually, word spread: "Your clock is ten minutes fast." Adjustments were made.

The clocks were never perfectly synchronized. But they stayed close enough for practical purposes.
