The Widened Road

A road needed widening. The old road was too narrow for new wagons.

The builders could close the road entirely while widening. Or they could widen one side while traffic used the other.

They widened in stages. The road was never fully closed.

"Slower construction," critics said.

"Continuous function," the builders replied.
